Music and iPod

On this page, you can read about the music that I listen to, and about my experience with the iPod.

iPod

Note: I am referring to the iPod Classic (2007). I do not recommend the iPod Touch.

The iPod Classic is my favorite audio player because of its great design, ease of use, and excellent sound quality. Additionally, I have installed Rockbox firmware on it, which greatly enhances its functionality.

Design

“Good design is as little as possible. Less, but better, because it concentrates on the essential aspects,

The design of the iPod Classic is simple and beautiful. The click-wheel is the best control method for audio players, in my opinion. The only problem is that the back of the iPod is like a mirror and scratches easily, which is why most used iPod Classics have scratches on the back. Despite this, I still find the design to be very pleasing.

Sound Quality

The sound quality of the iPod Classic is excellent, especially when paired with good earphones. It’s hard to describe how the sound quality feels, but for me, it is like closing my eyes and being transported to another world through the music.

Rockbox

Rockbox is a free firmware for the iPod Classic and other supported players. It offers many benefits, including:

  • Free software
  • Easy to install
  • Customization – hundreds of themes, and you can create your own!
  • Support for more audio formats such as FLAC
  • The ability to drag and drop files to the music folder without the need to use iTunes
  • Additional software such as calculators, chess clocks, image viewers, and text editors, and it can also be used as an OTP key
  • Games such as 2048, Tetris, chess, and more, and it can even run Doom

I personally use a theme that resembles the interface from the first iPod called PodTwo.

There is also a fork of this theme that includes album pictures called iMMX.

If you have an iPod Classic or other supported player, I highly recommend trying Rockbox. It is easy to install and you will not harm your device if something goes wrong.     • Game Theory – Faithless My first and best friend suggested this song like many others, and, somehow while listening to this song for the first time, I understood that I had finally found a real friend. I think, I will write post about him later.
